  • Interrogate and Find the Impostor: If you interrogate a Crewmate about where they were during the kill you noted, if they were in the same location as the killing, it means that this crewmate is likely An Impostor. If multiple Crewmates were nearby, ask them each where they were. If one lies, it is likely that they are the killer.
  • Note the Impostor Role if you see them: If you see an Impostor with a role (Shapeshifter or Phantom) or if you see the body dissolving (Viper), put this info in the notes.
  • Be focus to note: When the Impostor kills, a note about the death will be added automatically. Focus on the ones you think you have the better chance of solving.
  • Find Impostors case by case: By default, the Detective will learn the Crewmate's locations for the current active case. If you want to interrogate about another case, go to Notes and change the case to the one you want to research. Impostors usually expect interrogation for the latest case, so you may be able to catch them by interrogating for a previous kill.
  • Interrogate the crew's must suspicious crewmates: It is important to interrogate the most suspicious Crewmates first before you hit the maximum amount of suspects for the case, controlled by Suspects per Case in the lobby's options. If you interrogate too many crewmates, your ability will stop working.
  • Work together with Trackers: Because they can track the Crew and see their locations, they can help reveal info about an Impostor pretending to somewhere they were not.
  • Be quick with Vipers: If the body dissolves completely, it cannot be noted in your files.
  • Carefull on self-reports: If a self-report happens, be careful. The Impostor who reported will give false information. The better option is hearing the Crewmate who is being blamed, or ejecting one of those if this Crewmate was not An Impostor, change the location to the location told by the Crewmate ejected.
  • Be careful when revealing your role: Impostors will be more likely to target you. If the lobby is set to have at least two Noisemakers, try lying about being a Noisemaker. This will make the Impostors less likely to kill you.
  • If you do reveal your role, make sure you have already caught an Impostor. Otherwise, do not, as Detective is a strong reasoning for getting out an Impostor.
    • Alternatively, if there are some regular Crewmates in the lobby alongside other roles, claim to be a regular Crewmate. This may make the Impostors less likely to kill you, as it makes you look like a smaller threat.
  • The range for the interrogate ability is horrifyingly small, so it will look extremely obvious if you just run up to a player and interrogate them, allowing smart Impostors to deduce that you are the detective and put a target on your head. Try to do so in less obvious ways, like interrogating while they are fixing (or pretending to fix) Reactor Meltdown, Oxygen Depleted, Fix Lights, or basically any sabotage other than Comms Sabotaged. You can also do so while they are on cams, idling, doing (or pretending to do) a task, or watching others do visual tasks. Note that it is nearly impossible to interrogate someone while moving, as you have to follow them extremely closely, which could get you accused of chasing and trying to kill them.
