- Guide
- Almost always, if you kill when there is more than one Crewmate nearby, it will give you away, unless it is a Shapeshifter.
- Exceptions to this can be made during Fix Lights, or in locations with enough walls or space to act as cover, such as Storage or Electrical on The Skeld. However, these locations are still very risky, and in the case of the latter, you'll likely need a vent to assist you. An exception is if many players are clumped together to the point where it is hard to distinguish one player from another, such as while doing an activity like checking Security or fixing a Sabotage, it would be hard to find The Impostor and thus safer to kill.
- One strategy for The Skeld is to go to MedBay and check if a Crewmate is using Security. You can check by telling the camera is blinking or not. If one is, then go inside MedBay and lock the door in Security. Next, take a vent to Security and kill the Crewmate inside. Finally, return to MedBay through the vent and act as nothing happened.
- Do not use this strategy if someone is after you going into MedBay because they'll discover that you used the vent. Also, if there is more than one Crewmate inside Security, it is safer to return to MedBay because the other Crewmates may exit the ability and see you kill.
- Do not let someone see you enter a location with someone else. If someone sees you enter a location where another person is in, goes to the location, and finds the other person dead, you were the last one seen with that person, which instantly makes you suspicious and most likely leading you to ejection, Unless you have shapeshifted as this could mislead the crew into ejecting a crewmate.
- Beware of Security on The Skeld, Polus and The Airship. Cameras are placed in positions just outside of locations, which are the perfect locations for Crewmates to watch.
- A possible way to take advantage of this as An Impostor is to take a vent to a location with two Crewmates, kill one, and take the vent back out. This could be an option for framing the remaining Crewmate for the murder, although you will need to make sure that they are preoccupied somehow, perhaps with a task or ability, and that someone saw both Crewmates enter the location.
- Combining killing with vents and Sabotage is highly recommended, as you will be able to enter and exit a location unseen except for by a victim, as long as you are careful enough.
- Since you move quickly towards the Crewmate when you kill someone, kills in large groups can be risky since other players could notice you moving when the kill happened. Therefore, it is a good idea to either position yourself perfectly over the Crewmates, so you move very slightly, or make sure they are too preoccupied with tasks to notice you. Also, note that you and the body automatically move to the front of the stack when making a kill, so you should quickly move up slightly to conceal yourself in the group.
- When performing kills in large groups, do not kill someone immediately when going into the crowd. This can make you appear suspicious since as soon as you went into the crowd, a Crewmate was killed. Instead, wait for another player to enter the crowd and then kill someone to make them appear suspicious, or wait for a few seconds and then kill a Crewmate.
- If you kill a Crewmate at one side of the map, call a critical Sabotage to lead The Crew away from the body. This can increase the time it takes for the body to be found, which means that there are more suspects. You might even have enough time to kill another Crewmate and win without an emergency meeting. Doors can also be used to shield the body from being discovered.
- Try to kill players that are in a location near a specific Crewmate as much as possible. This may force that player to find and report most of the bodies, and possibly get accused of killing Crewmates, then immediately reporting their bodies.
- Try to take advantage of the location you are in. It is ideal to use the layout of the location to kill Crewmates.
- If you Sabotage, do not kill any Crewmates who come over to fix it. There are many reasons why:
- Many Crewmates will come to the fixing location. If you kill a lone Crewmate there, you may not have time to run away before other Crewmates come over. This is especially true in the case of rooms without a vent, such as O2 on The Skeld.
- Even if you manage to run or vent away before anyone sees you, Crewmates will rush over, and the body will almost certainly be reported. This will instantly resolve the Sabotage, making it completely pointless.
- The exception to both reasons is Fix Lights. This Sabotage is not resolved even if meetings are called or dead bodies are reported. You can usually get away with killing Crewmates due to the Crewmates having low vision unless the "Crewmate Vision" option is set very high.
- Take advantage of Fix Lights when trying to kill Crewmates. The Sabotage will hide the body until the Sabotage is resolved or a Crewmate reports the body. Attempt to get as far away as possible from the body.
- Check if anyone is using Admin before killing, as if you killed someone, the person using Admin will see the kill, possibly leading them to discover you as The Impostor. If you killed someone with players watching Admin, quickly take a vent to a safe location.
- On Polus and The Airship, or where there are Scientists in the game, avoid killing a Crewmate and reporting their body immediately after unless you can confirm no one is using Vitals. Players on Vitals will see the player die, with an emergency meeting occurring immediately after, leading to suspicion — and possibly ejection.
- Crewmates may hide in locations like behind the rock Outside on Polus, so if you want to kill someone and close to a similar spot, check if there is a Crewmate hiding. You can do this by either looking for their name at the hiding place or, if you are not currently on cooldown, walking near the hiding place and watching for your kill button to light up. If there is, then wait for the person you want to kill to leave, enact a Sabotage such as Fix Lights, kill them behind the hiding spot and go to fix the Sabotage with the rest of the Crewmates.
- Crewmates on Polus and The Airship can stand over the cameras to hide the blinking. If you want to kill someone purposefully covering a camera, you can go to Security and see if anyone is there. If that is the case, then don't kill them because the Crewmate using Security may find and report the body, leading to your ejection.
- Another alternative would be enacting Comms Sabotaged before killing a Crewmate standing near a camera. This may also be useful on MIRA HQ, where Doorlog is disabled during this Sabotage. Before following a Crewmate to a specific region (e.g. North region), Sabotage Comms, as you may not be seen in the Doorlog and therefore not suspected of being last seen near the dead player.
- Just as you should not kill without an escape plan, do not leave fellow Impostors unable to escape. For example, do not kill in a pattern that leaves another Impostor unable to get away from bodies in time.
- You should avoid killing near the emergency button because someone who wants to call a meeting might report the body and get a free meeting.
- However, if you were caught acting as An Impostor (such as using a vent, faking tasks, etc.), Do not kill the person who is suspicious of you, as killing someone who is suspicious of you will create more evidence of you being the impostor. Instead, kill someone innocent, and it will make the other person look more guilty.
- Another way to do that is to Sabotage anything to prevent the Crewmate from calling an emergency meeting. This strategy is used especially when you were discovered acting as An Impostor near the emergency button. This will also get your kill cooldown lower and hence easier to kill the Crewmate.
- Something you can do is wait in a small room with low crewmate traffic and when someone walks in close the doors and kill them, then quickly hop into the vents. Here are some rooms; The Skeld Medbay, Mira HQ Laboratory, Polus Storage, The Airship Armory, The Fungle Cafeteria.
- Try finding a small room with at least 3 tasks make sure 3 people are doing 3 different tasks then you can vent in and kill one of them, resulting in both crewmates framing each other
- However, if you were caught acting as An Impostor (such as using a vent, faking tasks, etc.), Do not kill the person who is suspicious of you, as killing someone who is suspicious of you will create more evidence of you being the impostor. Instead, kill someone innocent, and it will make the other person look more guilty.
- Avoid venting in MedBay. All Crewmates/Impostor feigning tasks will appear facing the left when leaving MedBay. However, when an Impostor/Engineer exits a vent, they appear facing the right when leaving MedBay.
