- Viper
The Viper is a role in Among Us, based on the Impostor role. Their primary goal is to kill enough Crewmates to win, but, along with the standard abilities that Impostors have access to, they have the ability to dissolve bodies which will make them disappear after a certain amount of time.
Abilities[]
Acid[]
The Viper's special Acid ability.
The Acid ability replaces the Kill ability, and makes bodies dissolve after a set amount of time.
Detailed animation description[]
The Viper teleports to the victim, spraying acid on them and decapitating them in one big splash of acid. The body wobbles and slumps to the floor, now coated in green acid. As the body dissolves, the acid slowly eats away at the flesh until it reduces the body to a bone. The acid then dissolves the bone, and the pet of the victim disappears with it.
Options[]
Options for the role can be set in the lobby options.
- Probability
- The maximum number of Impostors that can become Vipers, and the likelihood of any given Impostor to become one.
- Dissolve Time
- How long it takes for bodies to dissolve after being killed using Acid.
Trivia[]
- During its prototyping phase, a variety of different methods to make the bodies disappear were considered for this role. Some of these were: inter-dimensional removal, a swarm of tiny (semi-amorphous) Impostors, an army of ants, and dehydration. [1]
- Once acid was decided upon as the method of killing, during playtesting, it initially matched the color of the Crewmate killed but was changed to a specific color to have more of an identity with the role.
- Scientifically, vipers in real life cannot regurgitate acid.
- The role's unique kill animation offers insight into the anatomy of the Viper, showcasing having two large fangs and a forked tongue in its mouth, as opposed to a pointed tongue and six, much shorter teeth.
- When a body killed by a Viper is fully dissolved, any pet equipped will also disappear with it. Logically, this should not happen as the acid is directed at the Crewmate, not the pet.
- Should a Noisemaker's alert duration be longer than the dissolve duration, any Noisemaker killed by a Viper may send out an alert that still points to the body even after the body is completely dissolved.
